... what is it about

The film borders on reality, quoting statements made by politicians, ulltimately Balladyna achieves the pinnacle of power. Who could she be in contemporary times?

Słowacki created a bloody drama. It will not however, be as gory as the original drama version but violence and a series of murders will remain a component of the film. The story is set in a big city gleaming with neon lights, overwhelmed with turmoil and splendour concealed in luxurious limousines, and at the same time permeated with poverty, dirt and terrorism. That means that the city setting perfectly satisfies the requirements of the drama. In these circumstances Balladyna will have her opportunity to accomplish as step by step she becomes an influential politician.

The character of Balladyna was influenced by Shakespeare. She is comparable to Lady Macbeth and Hamlet but it also contains fairy elements stemming from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Yet Słowacki drew on the idea of raspberry “eliminations” from a local ballad by Aleksander Chodźko on “how easily a man yields to the temptation and is willing to pass to the “dark” side of power. It brings out references to the biblical siblings of Cain and Abel as well as in the stigma of fratricide and the “Mark of Cain” in the bloody hallmark of Balladyna. In the screenplay I wrote     a part for Dr Ash based on the Hermit and played by Faye Dunaway: “Each of us carries stigmas of their own actions. Everything that happened, is happening and what will happen are subject to the universal rule of action and reaction. Edgar Cayce wrote “Zodiac signs are karma patterns; Planets are a weaving plant; our will is a weaver. We ourselves determine our fate.”

So through Słowacki the film refers to the myths about Lech, founder of the Polish state. Słowacki revealed widespread evil in a man and the fierce struggle when one victim entails another. Sonia Bohosiewicz performing the role of Balladyna perfectly creates the character of the tough woman. It is obvious which of the twins rules and what intentions she possesses.

about the productionod_rezysera_prod.html

Słowacki in his tragedy about morality and its eternal varieties underlined that it is unlikely to govern in a fair way after reaching power in such    a cruel manner. And it does not matter that the original intention was to reign according to the law.

The drama was staged and interpreted many times though the prism of current political events. Starting from the November Uprising, through an allegorical portrait of the tsar, political disputes arising in exile, satire of absolute monarchies and leading politicians through to social problems of people in the “supermarket tribe”, stock exchange and economic crisis. My version will only augment subsequent possible resolution.
